Are combi boilers really as effective as they are made out to be?
Combi boilers have become much more effective and reliable in recent years and do provide a great way of accessing both hot water and central heating whenever you want it and without limit. -
Does a boiler change create much mess?
As with every job, there is always a level of mess involved. Soldering is required and often cupboards need to be emptied so a boiler can be fitted properly. However, the job doesn’t have to be very messy and it does not have to feel like your kitchen has been overtaken. Sheets can be laid because dust is created but we are very good at tidying up after ourselves and mess shouldn’t put anyone off having such an important job carried out. -
What should you look for in a boiler when you set out to buy one?
The most important factors to look out for when choosing a boiler are the efficiency of the boiler and the reliability of the manufacturer and product. -
Why doesn’t my boiler work?
There are several reasons why boilers sometimes stop functioning. One of the most common is a blown fuse meaning the boiler is getting no power. Elements inside the boiler can blow or fail and it can cause the electrics to short circuit. Another reason is the boiler is not firing or the ignition is not working. You will need to call out a heating engineer to take a look at this problem. If there is a leak in your system, it will cause your boiler system to have less pressure so taps trickle rather than flow. This can be checked out by a plumbing and heating specialist. -
Why do I have low water pressure?
Again, as with many issues which can occur in a boiler or central heating system, there could be a variety of reasons as to why you are experiencing low water pressure. These include old pipes, pipes filled with sludge over many years, a shut off valve which is not fully open or is not working properly; or there could be a leak in your system. Call Tim the Plumber to take a look at your system and run a service on it to flush it through. This makes a huge difference to the performance and efficiency of your system. -
Why is my boiler making a banging noise?
As always there are several possible reasons for this but one of the most common is the build up of debris, grit and sludge in the system which clogs up the pipes and radiators. We recommend getting systems flushed to help the longevity of the pipe work and radiators. -
Why does one radiator not get hot?
One of the first things you should check if one of your radiator is not heating up is whether the valves are open. You will usually find valves on either side of the radiator. If both of the valves are open then the next thing to do would be to bleed the radiator with the radiator key to make sure any air bubbles are freed as this can block the radiator. If these two things still don’t solve the problem, we would recommend you call us to come and look at your system to find the problem, as the likelihood is there is a blockage somewhere in your system. -
